The server admins community seems to have been surprised by our recent AMX Mod release. Many trolls, flamewars and pointless things have been seen over the Internet about it.
We just wanted to tell you sanely about our position, so here is a little FAQ page which will hopefully help you think reasonably.
Well, you didn't get the point. :-) OLO, the original creator of AMX Mod, announced in September 2003 that he was tired up with AMX and that no other version should be expected from him. We have to admit this is totally true.
But a project does not only depend on its creator: if he decides to trust some other ones enough to let them keep up the project, this one can go on living even if its original author doesn't involve as much as before.
Well, some had already said that about 0.9.8, hadn't they? There are some plans for the future that we think are pointful. But this is only our opinion and nobody obliges you to have the same.
This is true. The reason is that the development was really stalled and nobody knew whether, when and how the project would be continued. Now, the plans are known, and even if we don't communicate much on what we work on, be sure we work. We don't waste time advertising about what would be great in versions you can't use yet, but if you want to know, your questions are welcome.
This doesn't seem to match what's on his page, does it?
We don't know many closed-source projects with a public CVS repository, maybe you do.
No. Version 0.9.7's system was bad, that's right. We reverted back to 0.9.3's because it has proved to be the best way since the day AMX Mod supports modules. Let's let MetaMod do its job, there's no need to add a second MetaMod to a single server.
That's probably why the provided modules.ini file gives a link to a forum thread about DoD support. Anyway: nobody ignores Counter-Strike is the most widely played online game ever. A (not 'the' of course) majority of server admins looking for server addons want them for their CS server. Hence it's much easier and pointful to provide them with CS-enabled packages by default.
We don't want to take part in the flame war some people have wanted to start. Both do similar jobs using similar code and achieve the similar end result. If you think one is better than the other and matches more what you're expecting from a server addon, you are free to choose.
